Print-Ready Artwork Checklist
Everything you need to check before sending your artwork to print. Follow this checklist and your files will be ready for perfect production — no delays, no reprints.
The Checklist
Add 3mm Bleed
Extend all background colours and images 3mm beyond the trim size on every edge.
Keep 3mm Safe Margin
Keep all important text and logos at least 3mm inside the trim edge to avoid being cut off.
Use CMYK Colour Mode
Convert all files to CMYK before exporting. RGB colours may shift unexpectedly when printed.
300dpi Resolution Minimum
All raster images must be at least 300dpi at the final printed size. Lower = pixelated.
Embed All Fonts
Ensure all fonts are embedded in your PDF, or convert text to outlines to prevent substitution.
Export as PDF
Supply as a high-resolution PDF (PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4 preferred). We also accept high-res JPEG, PNG, TIFF.
Artwork FAQs
What is bleed and why do I need it?
Bleed is extra print area (usually 3mm) added beyond your trim size. It ensures that when the paper is cut, there are no white edges. Always extend background colours and images into the bleed area.
Should my artwork be in CMYK or RGB?
Always supply artwork in CMYK colour mode. RGB colours may look different when printed. Converting to CMYK before sending ensures the colours you see are the colours you get.
What resolution should my images be?
All images should be at least 300dpi (dots per inch) at the final printed size. Lower resolution images will appear pixelated or blurry when printed.
What file format should I send?
PDF is the preferred format for print artwork. We also accept high-resolution JPEG, PNG, and TIFF files. For vector graphics, supply as PDF or EPS with fonts outlined.
What is a safe area?
The safe area is the zone inside the trim line where all important text and graphics should be kept. We recommend a minimum 3mm safe margin from the trim edge to avoid anything being cut off.
Can BA Print check my artwork before printing?
Yes. We offer a free basic file check (pre-flight) on every order. We'll flag any obvious issues with resolution, bleed, or colour mode before we print.
